AI Artist/Animator
Full-time contractor
Remote
Time is our most precious resource. Recs is a recommendation layer built to help people spend theirs on what's actually worth it. We cut through the noise so people can find what fits their lives, make better choices, and avoid wasting time on things that don't deliver.
Who we are
Nebula is an animation studio making short-form documentaries about the startups, scientists, and ideas changing the world. Most fascinating stories in tech never get told. The founders are too busy. Journalists can't get access. The format doesn't fit. We built Nebula to fix that. Every video we make is fact-checked before we animate a single frame. We'd rather make fewer videos and get them right.
About the role
As an AI Artist/Animator, you own a story end to end: you write it, storyboard it, and turn it into a complete generative AI video prototype. We bring you the topic; you make it land. This is the cut we use to decide whether a story is worth investing real animation hours in. The work that makes a video land is storytelling, not tooling. The ideal candidate can tell a story, has strong attention to detail, and treats the tools as a means to that end.
What you’ll do
You embody candor, conscientiousness, and first-principles thinking. You prioritize problem-solving and respectful confrontation. You question the status quo and make decisions rooted in evidence.
Responsibilities
Scripting: Write the script. A 45-second Short runs about 130 words, so every word has to carry weight. Pick the story structure that fits the material.
Storyboard: Translate the script into a storyboard that maps each beat to a frame.
Prototype ownership: Turn the script and storyboard into a complete generative AI prototype, end to end.
Storytelling: Shape pacing, structure, and emotional beats so the video reads as a story, not a sequence of shots. This is the core of the job.
Rough cut assembly: Build the rough cut with pacing tight enough for it to read as a finished short-form video rather than a slideshow
Who you are
We are after someone who can tell a story. There are a few things we look for:
Articulate. You say more with fewer words and waste none of them.
A real voice. Your work reads like a person made it, not a template.
You can hold a viewer. Pacing, tension, and an ending that lands.
Range. You move across tone, subject, and form without losing the through-line.
You love the craft. That is what carries someone through making hundreds of videos.
Required qualifications
You can write. You can take a researched topic and turn it into a tight, accurate script that makes a viewer feel something in a short format. This is the skill we are scoring hardest.
You understand that the prototype is a decision-making artifact, not a deliverable. Its job is to make the right short-form videos obvious before animation hours are spent on the wrong ones.
You have a strong, specific aesthetic point of view and can defend it without being precious about it.
You have strong written communication skills.
You are proficient in written and spoken English
